By Popular Demand - the goal is to pick something that fits the category and will be the `most popular' answer. You score points based on the number of entries that match yours. For example, if the category is `Cats' and the responses were 7 for Persian, 3 for Calico and 1 for Siamese, everyone who said Persian would get 7 points, Calico 3 and the lone Siamese would score 1 point. The cumulative total over 10 rounds will determine the overall winner. Anyone may enter at any point, starting with an equivalent point total of the lowest cumulative score from the previous round. If a person misses a round, they'll receive the minimum score from the round added to their cumulative total. And, if you want to submit some commentary with your answers, feel free to. Highest possible score was 24 with Paul Boymel making the grade! 1 - Car Part: The only consensus was with the Engine. I expected that to be #1, but had thought that there might be a couple with tire/tyre. 2 - Computer Part: Very wide spread responses. No one picked CPU/Processor or RAM (with me, it was a toss-up which to pick) as they are the key components for performance that are well known (something I deal with all the time at work). 3 - Newspaper Part: OK, I'd have chosen `news' or `front page' - I almost never even take a passing look at the sports section. I suppose, if I'd really thought about it, that sports is the logical choice (as you all did!). But, if I was playing, I'd be skunked...... 4 - Wargame Part: For me, it would be a toss-up between board and counters. I'd probably have chosen counters in the end. I'd not have thought about maps, but with a Dip crowd, those conference maps are quite handy in ftf negotiations (especially with lurking ears nearby). 5 - Human Body Part: Heart was my choice. However, the head took the honors (and my likely second choice). Player Commentary: General: [Paul] I would be very very surprised to find any scores over 20 this round. [WAY] And this from the top scorer! 1 - Car Part: [Marc] I see this being split amongst a large number of parts (stereo, bumper and steering wheel all jump out right away). Without the engine, there can't be a car (not so with all the other things, except perhaps wheels!). [Brendan] I'm tempted to say tyre, but you guys spell it funny and may not realize it's the same as your word 'tire'. Likewise with bonnet, boot, windscreen, etc. [Lori] Pretty easy choice for me, but I'm sure `transmission' will get a few picks. [WAY] Nope, sorry. 2 - Computer Part: [Fred] Being a computer illiterate, this is the only part I can safely name. [Marc] see 1) above (box, keyboard, mouse, modem, etc. all are initial thoughts). But in the end, what are you looking at....the monitor. [Paul] I am handicapped by not knowing the correct names of computer parts. It is a miracle enough that my wife has taught me to turn the @#$%^&*() thing on. [Lori] This one has a ton of answers and I expect `monitor,' `keyboard,' `processor,' and `mouse' will get chosen too. 3 - Newspaper Part: [Fred] Since this is mostly a guy game, I named the section that most of us read first. [WAY] Not me, I'm afraid. [Marc] There are nine guys playing in this game, what else could it be??? Perhaps the comics or the front page. No the only answer is Sports. [WAY] OK, rub it in.... [Paul] With most `guy-dominated' hobby, I would say Sports is a no-brainer. With those into fantasy gaming, though, it might be Comics. [WAY] Okay, okay, I get it! [Brendan] I'd say 'personals' but a) I don't want to look desperate, and b) no one else is brave enough to say it either and d) most yanks are bonkers on 'sports' which is actually an excuse for eating fried food, beer and sitting on the couch all day. Especially in a gaming crowd. I have to say when I went to Origins, I'm amazed they could fit as many fat Yanks in the conference hall as they did without slicing them thinner first. (nothing like some provocation to make the game exciting). [Lori] Another category where I chose to think like a male instead of a female for the sake of the game. Personally, I would have chosen `headline' or `front page' but I'm playing with a bunch of men, who, stereotypically, open a newspaper immediately to the Sports section and throw the rest of the paper in the bin. [WAY] I guess I'd better just quietly go away and forget this entire question...... 4 - Wargame Part: [Marc] Someone could go with counters or even board. [WAY] and they did [Marc] However, in the end is has to come down to Dice or Maps. If this wasn't a Dip Zine, I think dice would be the preferred answer. But we ARE dippers and the only parts are maps and pieces. [Paul] Safe, uninspired. Easily good for 5 points. Not yet time to go for broke to catch the folks in front of me. [WAY] Sorry, only 4 points but for you, you are definitely making your move. [Brendan] 'Combat Results Table' is perhaps a tad specific. [Lori] I had to ask my husband about this one because I've never played wargames before. SO if I get this wrong, blame him (LOL) [WAY] Well, Steve, how much trouble you are going to be in?? 5 - Human Body Part: [Marc] Wasn't this already asked?? No that was an organ, wasn't it??? [WAY] Yep [Marc] How about a head. nothing says human like the head (and I think that heart was already picked). I'm out in left field on this one. Perhaps arm or leg would be better, but head is my answer. [WAY] and the correct choice! [Paul] ditto (previous comments) [Lori] This was a tough one...I waffled between `head' and `heart', with `hand' running a close third. I went with my initial reaction, but it may cost me. [WAY] Nope, it worked out just fine for you!
