Kip Keino was a Kenyan policeman who beat USA's Jim Ryun to win the 1,500m gold medal at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics; won again in the steeplechase at the 1972 Summer Games; his success spawned a long line of international distance champions from Kenya. That's what he did, and why his name appears here. To see who he is, visit the Humanitarian Sportsmen web site.
The runners are Bill Scharf, Jim Reader, Mark Stretch, Brendan Whyte, Dave Partridge, Tim Snyder, Bart Denny, and Dave McCrumb. Please submit your starting cards by 6 pm PST on Tuesday, 29th January 2002, although if you don't, you'll start with: 2, 4, 6, 8, & 10.
If you all also send your first move with your starting cards, the game can get started a publishing cycle earlier!
Any one needing rules holler, although they are available here.
