Kip Keino 

Kip Keino was a Kenyan policeman who beat USA's Jim Ryun to win the 1,500m gold medal at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics; won again in the steeplechase at the 1972 Summer Games; his success spawned a long line of international distance champions from Kenya.
