Both these diseases threaten the hoof bone bone (lamellar interface). Hoof function, and therefore horse function, is closely tied to hoof health. An important aspect of hoof health is hoof conformation (shape, size, composition, relative internal anatomy, etc.). Diseases which threaten the lamellar bond threaten hoof anatomy. Normal anatomy optimizes hoof physilogy and the hoof's capacity to function in its environment.
